Sustainable travel in 2020
Mindfulness of the environment and a ‘leave no trace philosophy’
Sustainability, mindfulness and ‘leave no trace’. These are terms you have most likely heard or are familiar with and they are also things we are very passionate about at Freycinet Experience Walk. But what does it mean? Under usual, pre Covid circumstances the travel and tourism industry is huge. After all, we have a whole world to explore! But during these current pandemic times, our travel range has become quite a bit smaller… which for the environment is actually a wonderful thing. Less air travel means less carbon emissions and less pressure on our roads and infrastructure, and it also means more time to explore our own backyard! It’s a tough time for many of our local tourism operators, so what better time to support our amazing Tassie businesses?
Our very own Friendly Beaches Lodge has been a winner of awards from the Royal Australian Institute of Architecture for sustainable design, and care for our surrounding environment and a ‘leave no trace’ mentality forms the centre of much of what we do.
When it comes to bushwalking, there are some simple things you can do to preserve the natural environment:
Plan ahead and prepare
Walk and camp on durable surfaces
Dispose of waste properly
Leave what you find
Minimise the impact of fires
Respect wildlife
Be considerate of your hosts and other visitors
